Dülük Ancient City

Since Dülük Ancient City is an entirely open-air site, the choice of season is crucial for comfort. In April, May, September, and October, the weather is mild; these periods are much more enjoyable for long walks. During the summer period from June to August, temperatures in Gaziantep can exceed 40 degrees Celsius; if you visit during these months, it's best to be at the site before noon. In winter, cold and occasionally rainy weather can make walking on the earthy ground difficult.

Dülük Ancient City is located approximately 10 km from Gaziantep city center, near Dülük Village within the borders of the Şehitkamil district. Going by private car is the most practical option; you can navigate by typing "Dülük Ancient City" or "Keber Hill" into navigation apps. For public transport, follow the current route information of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality or opt for a taxi or car rental from the city center.

There are no dining establishments immediately around the ancient city. Before or after your visit, you will need to head to Gaziantep city center or restaurants in the Şehitkamil district. Gaziantep is known as Turkey's gastronomy capital; hundreds of local delicacies await you, including pistachio baklava, katmer, beyran soup, and lahmacun. If you plan a long tour of the area, don't forget to bring snacks and water.

The Mithras Temple, with its lighting arrangement, offers powerful shots both during the day and at dusk. The entrances to the rock-cut chamber tombs create interesting compositions in terms of texture and depth. Wide-angle photos taken from the high points of Keber Hill can capture the panorama of the Gaziantep plain as a background. During periods of active excavations, photos documenting the archaeological work also yield very meaningful images.

Dülük Ancient City alone deserves a half-day visit; 2–3 hours can easily be spent within the area. If you are coming to Gaziantep, you can combine it with other important points of the city to create a full-day program. It is possible to fit stops like Gaziantep Zeugma Mosaic Museum, Gaziantep Castle, and Coppersmiths' Bazaar into the same day. If you have a deep interest in history and archaeology, it is recommended to allocate at least 2 days for Gaziantep.

When visiting Gaziantep, include Dülük Ancient City in your morning program; explore the foothills of Keber Hill and the Mithras Temple while the weather is still cool. In the afternoon, you can return to the city center to visit the Zeugma Mosaic Museum. In the evening, enjoying Gaziantep cuisine in the historical bazaar area would be a nice conclusion. This sequence offers a balanced Gaziantep experience both physically and culturally.

The area is an active archaeological excavation site; visitor access to some sectors may be restricted. Since the ground largely consists of soil and stone surfaces, walking with high heels or flat sandals can be tiring. Shaded areas are quite limited; make sure to bring sunscreen, a hat, and sufficient water. Avoid touching any sarcophagi or reliefs, as these structures are very delicate.
