Colybrassus Ancient City

The most suitable period to visit Colybrassus is April–May and September–October. During these seasons, the weather at the foothills of the Taurus is cool and suitable for visiting; the vegetation is also quite vibrant. In July and August, high temperatures can make it difficult to wander around the ancient site for long periods. In winter, rainy and muddy ground, especially on the dirt road in the final section, poses significant difficulties. A visit starting in the early morning provides advantages in terms of both light and coolness.

The most practical way to reach Colybrassus is by private car. From Alanya city center, head towards Güzelbağ Town, and from there, towards Bayırkozağacı Neighborhood, for approximately 30 kilometers. The last section of the road may be stabilized or dirt, so choosing a high-clearance vehicle will make your journey easier. Day trip companies operating from Alanya sometimes include this region in their itineraries; it would be beneficial to get information from tour operators in advance. Public transportation options are quite limited.

Colybrassus is an area that can be comfortably seen within a half-day program. 1.5 to 3 hours is sufficient to explore the ruins and take photos. If you are staying in Alanya, you can leave early in the morning and return before noon, dedicating the afternoon to other points of interest in Alanya. For those who also want to see the surrounding villages and the Taurus scenery, adding another half-day would be logical.

You can depart from Alanya city center early in the morning to visit Colybrassus first, then take a short break in Güzelbağ Town to observe local life. On the way back, there will be time to visit Alanya Castle and its surroundings in the afternoon. This route is quite efficient for a history-focused day. Don't forget to check your vehicle's fuel level in advance; finding a gas station in the region can be difficult.

The most striking shots in Colybrassus are taken from angles where Byzantine-era structural remains are featured with the Taurus Mountains in the background. Shooting shortly after sunrise is advantageous as the morning light accentuates the texture on the stone surfaces. In spring, the greenery covering the surroundings creates a strong contrast with the ruins. A wide-angle lens and a polarizing filter are useful for this type of outdoor ancient site photography.

The area does not yet have comprehensive tourism infrastructure; it is important to carry sufficient water and snacks with you. There may not be regular toilets or cafeterias nearby. Wear sturdy hiking shoes as the terrain is uneven. Before visiting, it is advisable to call the Antalya Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism or the Alanya Museum to confirm current access and entry conditions. It is every visitor's responsibility not to damage the ruins and to leave the environment clean.

Restaurant options in the immediate vicinity of Colybrassus are extremely limited. In Güzelbağ Town, you might find places offering small village breakfasts or home-cooked meals; however, these vary depending on the season and daily conditions. When you return to Alanya city center, numerous restaurants await you, offering fresh seafood, kebabs, and the full diversity of Mediterranean cuisine. It should also be noted that the Güzelbağ area is known for its citrus and vegetable production.
