Aladağ Meydan Highland

The most suitable window to visit Meydan Highland is between late May and early October. During these months, the highland is completely green, forest paths become suitable for hiking, and country restaurants open their doors. July and August are when you will find the highland most crowded, especially when temperatures peak in the Adana plain; weekends can be very busy.

If you want a calmer experience, you can choose early June or September. During these periods, the weather is still pleasant, and visitor density is relatively low. In winter months, the highland becomes deserted, and access can be difficult; the stabilized road section may close due to snowfall.

It is reached by a journey of approximately 80 km from Adana city center by private car. The asphalt road continues along the route to Aladağ district; the approximately 6 km section from the district center to the highland is stabilized. Choosing a high-traction vehicle will make the journey more comfortable.

For those preferring public transport, minibus services are available from Adana to Aladağ district. Local vehicles or taxis can be used to reach the highland from the district center. Cycling enthusiasts, on the other hand, prefer the 188 km round-trip route from Adana to the highland with experienced groups.

Meydan Highland offers various composition opportunities for photography enthusiasts. When you climb to the top of Meydan Castle, you can frame the entire highland and the Taurus silhouette behind it; especially impressive shots are obtained in the early morning hours when the fog layer has not yet dispersed.

The light filtering through the juniper and cedar trees on the hiking trails within the forest creates an ideal environment for forest photography. The fruit orchards and traditional wooden structures scattered throughout the highland also contain beautiful details for those who want to take documentary-style photographs. The color transitions obtained from the western-facing ridges at sunset are also noteworthy.

At Meydan Highland, country restaurants are at the heart of the dining experience. Meat products are indispensable elements of these restaurants; kebabs and grills cooked over a wood fire are paramount. Local yogurt, fresh cheese, and village bread are also always on the table.

There are also cafes and small grocery stores in the highland; you can use these for a tea break or to get simple snacks. If you plan to have a picnic, it will be more practical to get supplies from Adana or Aladağ district. It is possible to taste meat delicacies carrying the Adana kebab tradition here in a simpler and more natural atmosphere.

For a day trip, you can consider the following itinerary: Depart from Adana in the early morning, and upon arrival at the highland, first take a short walk towards Meydan Castle. Look at the view from around the castle, take photos. Then go for a short nature walk on the forest trails.

At lunchtime, have a meat-heavy lunch at a country restaurant in the highland. In the afternoon, relax in the picnic areas or explore different corners of the highland. If you leave the return journey for early evening, you will avoid both traffic and darkness on the mountain road.

When going to the highland, always check the weather forecast; the weather in the Taurus Mountains can change suddenly, especially in spring and autumn, you may encounter cool and rainy conditions. Taking a light raincoat or cardigan with you would be a good precaution.

Careful driving is required on the stabilized road section from the district center to the highland; the road surface may be slippery after rain. Since there are no ATMs or bank branches in the highland, remember to bring cash. Since crowds increase on weekends and public holidays, departing early will give you an advantage for both parking and restaurants. Respecting the natural area, taking your trash back with you, and not lighting fires contribute to the preservation of the highland.
