Hasan Bey Madrasah is an Ottoman-era educational building located at the foot of Hoşap Castle in Gürpınar district of Van, built in 1563 by Mahmudi Hasan Bey; it bears the architectural character of the 16th century with its asymmetrical plan and stone masonry.

The months of April–June and September–October are ideal for visiting Hasan Bey Madrasah. During these periods, Van and its surroundings enjoy a mild climate; the Hoşap valley also provides a pleasant green backdrop. In July–August, the region can be quite hot and dry. In winter, snow and road conditions make access to Güzelsu difficult.
How to Get There
From Van city center, drive approximately 60 km along the D975 highway towards Gürpınar. Upon entering the Güzelsu sub-district, the madrasah can be seen on the north side of the road, right in front of Hoşap Castle. A private car is the most comfortable option. Minibus services also operate from Van bus station to Hoşap; those traveling by minibus can get off in Güzelsu and reach it on foot. A day trip can also be planned by taxi.

Hasan Bey Madrasah can easily be visited together with Hoşap Castle in a single day. You can depart from Van in the morning, first explore the madrasah, and then climb the castle.
