Abdülhamit Fountain

The fountain was built in the Hijri year 1309 (1891-1892 AD) during the reign of Sultan Abdülhamit II. Constructed with cut stone using the rubble masonry technique, the structure has three spouts and a single facade. The eastern facade is divided into three sections by fluted columns located in the center and at the corners. The column capitals are adorned with floral motifs, especially acanthus leaf patterns; above them is a stepped and fluted molding.

The inscription features the tughra of Abdülhamit II and the construction date. The area around the spouts is also decorated with floral motifs. In front of the fountain, there are three water basins and resting stones. This detail indicates that the structure was designed not only for water supply but also as a resting point for passing travelers.

The fountain is located on İskele Street in İskender Paşa Neighborhood, close to Trabzon Port. It is easily accessible from the city center by public transport. It is not difficult to add to your itinerary when exploring the Ortahisar area; it is also a natural stop for those walking around the port.

As it is a small-scale structure, 5-10 minutes is sufficient. The main time should be spent examining the fountain's stone craftsmanship and the tughra on the inscription. It does not constitute a standalone travel program but can be added as a natural stop on a tour of Ortahisar and the port area.

The historical Ortahisar area and the port surroundings are rich in structures from the Ottoman and pre-Ottoman periods. While visiting the Abdülhamit Fountain, walking through the surrounding historical streets is a good opportunity to see the texture of the area. It is possible to combine your route with Trabzon's central historical points.

The fluted columns and acanthus-leaf capitals on the eastern facade are the most striking details for close-up shots. During daylight hours, natural light makes the tughra on the inscription and the stone carving work more legible. Detail shots, rather than wide-angle, better reflect the architectural finesse of the fountain.

The fountain is an open-air structure that can be seen at any time of day; there are no specific operating hours or entrance fees. Since it is not a major tourist area, signs may be limited, so going with location information will make it easier. Planning it together with other historical structures nearby makes the visit more meaningful.
