Ahi Evren Dede Mosque and Tomb is a single-domed mosque built with cut stone in 1890, located on the Boztepe ridge of Trabzon, with an adjacent tomb; it is named after Ahi Evren, the founder of the Ahi order, and can be visited for free.
This small mosque, nestled on the ridges of Boztepe, bears witness to the Islamization process after the conquest of Trabzon. Ahi Evren Dede was a figure sent to the region during the reign of Orhan Gazi, tasked with spreading merchant ethics and religious teachings. According to legend, he was martyred in 1351 at the age of 67 and buried under a nearby walnut tree. In the 19th century, Hacı Hakkı Baba found the place he saw in a dream and moved his remains to the current tomb; he himself was buried at the foot of the saint in the same tomb, as per his will.
The current structure dates back to 1890, a single-domed mosque built with cut stone using the rubble masonry technique. Its vertical rectangular plan in the qibla direction is a detail that differs from the general horizontal layout of such mosques. The tomb shares a part of the last congregation area to the north of the mosque; it cannot be entered, and visits are made from the outside. In its hazire (cemetery section), ornate headstones from the 19th century stand, and right next to it is the Boztepe Cemetery.
Visitors are surprised by the mosque's small size but highlight the spaciousness and cleanliness of its garden and the Trabzon view visible from here. The presence of a tea house makes the mosque not just a place of worship but also a spot to sit and relax. Some comments indicate that reaching the location is a bit challenging; going by car will make your trip easier.

When to Visit

How to Get There
The road from Trabzon city center to Boztepe is narrow and steep. Bus lines 121, 141, 141A, and 501 stop at the Ahi Evren Dede Tomb stop, which is a 4-minute walk from the mosque. Due to the length of the incline and its distance from the city center, taking a taxi or your own car will save time.

Since it is close to Boztepe Picnic Area and the surrounding viewing terraces, it is possible to see both the historical and natural aspects in a single trip. Timing your mosque visit to before sunset offers the opportunity to also watch the city lights on your way back.
Visit Notes
The tomb cannot be entered; visits are made from the doorway. Since there is a cemetery in the mosque courtyard, it is necessary to behave quietly and respectfully. Visitor comments frequently mention that the garden is clean and spacious, and the toilets are well-maintained. Some comments also mention discipline issues with children, so it would be beneficial to keep a close eye on children during family visits.
For Photography
The mosque's courtyard gate and minaret are suitable for close-up shots. The main shot, however, comes from the point facing east from the courtyard: the eastern side of Trabzon and the Black Sea ridges are clearly visible from here. The light is clearer in the hours before noon.
