Ahi Evren Dede Mosque and Tomb is a single-domed mosque built with cut stone in 1890, located on the Boztepe ridge of Trabzon, with an adjacent tomb; it is named after Ahi Evren, the founder of the Ahi order, and can be visited for free.
This small mosque, nestled on the ridges of Boztepe, bears witness to the Islamization process after the conquest of Trabzon. Ahi Evren Dede was a figure sent to the region during the reign of Orhan Gazi, tasked with spreading merchant ethics and religious teachings. According to legend, he was martyred in 1351 at the age of 67 and buried under a nearby walnut tree. In the 19th century, Hacı Hakkı Baba found the place he saw in a dream and moved his remains to the current tomb; he himself was buried at the foot of the saint in the same tomb, as per his will.
The current structure dates back to 1890, a single-domed mosque built with cut stone using the rubble masonry technique. Its vertical rectangular plan in the qibla direction is a detail that differs from the general horizontal layout of such mosques. The tomb shares a part of the last congregation area to the north of the mosque; it cannot be entered, and visits are made from the outside. In its hazire (cemetery section), ornate headstones from the 19th century stand, and right next to it is the Boztepe Cemetery.
