Naip Castle

The most suitable periods to visit Naip Castle are the spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) months. During these seasons, the forested roads are more passable, and you won't encounter extreme heat or cold. In summer, as the region can be hot and humid, going early in the morning offers a more comfortable experience. In winter, access may become difficult due to rain and mud.

There are regular minibus services from Süleymanpaşa district center to Naip Neighborhood. After arriving at the neighborhood center, you need to proceed approximately 4 km southwest to reach the castle. Those using a private vehicle can follow the Atatürk Boulevard and D-110 Highway route. Considering that the roads leading to the castle can be narrow and unmaintained, it would be safer to prefer a high-clearance vehicle or to walk the last section.

1-2 hours are sufficient for the castle alone. If you plan to visit the Naip Waterfall and the nearby monastery ruins in the region, it would be more appropriate to allocate half a day or a full day. If you enjoy nature walks, you can explore this route at a relaxed pace.

The castle's location on a high hill offers a wide, commanding view of the surroundings. The two standing towers, with their architectural details from the Roman and Byzantine periods, are the most striking elements for photography. The roads passing through the forested area and the castle's silhouette also provide a good backdrop for nature-history blend shots. From a lighting perspective, the hours before noon are more advantageous.

Visiting Naip Castle alone offers a less fulfilling experience than combining it with other points in the region. The suggested order could be as follows: First, Naip Waterfall, then the castle, and finally, if any, the monastery ruins. This route allows you to see both historical and natural beauties together. After completing the route, you can return to Süleymanpaşa center and visit other historical sites in Tekirdağ.

The roads leading to the castle are known to be unmaintained and narrow; therefore, sturdy walking shoes are essential. There are no official facilities, toilets, or drinking water points in the forested area; it is recommended to bring sufficient water and snacks. Considering that signage and directions may be inadequate, saving the route to a map or GPS application beforehand will make your job easier. It should also be remembered that the castle has an official protection status and damaging historical structures carries legal obligations.

Naip Castle is a defense and observation structure built during the Late Roman period. The castle, which continued to be used during the Byzantine period, has survived to the present day with its ramparts built of small rubble stones and Khorasan mortar. Today, two towers, 6-7 meters high, stand quite robustly. The hill where the structure is located provides complete dominance over the surroundings, indicating its strategic military importance.
