Paşabahçe Recreation Area

Spring and summer months are when the area is most vibrant. But this is also the busiest time; especially during Ramadan and on summer weekends, news reports indicate tens of thousands of people visit. In autumn, the area becomes calmer, and the colors of the leaves add a special touch to the scenery. For those who want to avoid crowds, weekday mornings or autumn months are a more relaxed option.

From Sivas city center, it takes approximately 10 minutes by car to Paşabahçe Recreation Area, with the distance varying between 7 and 10 kilometers according to sources. It is located on Akdeğirmen Mahallesi, Sivas Karaçayır Yolu. Going by private car is the most practical option. There is no clear public transport route information, so I recommend going by taxi or your own vehicle.

2 hours is sufficient for a short walk and a photo break. If you plan to picnic, spend time in the children's playgrounds, and visit the waterfall, allocating half a day is more realistic. Considering the size of the area and the crowds in summer, going early and spending the day there is sensible for both finding a spot and escaping the heat.

After entering the area, a short walk along the lake to see the general layout is a good start. Then, if you come with children, you can head to the playground area, or if you're picnicking, to the tables in the wooded section. If there's a waterfall, be sure to see it; plan according to whether the water is flowing. The small zoo section is also a separate stop, especially for children.

One visitor mentioned that there is a wedding hall within the area and that wedding cars use the same roads, which sometimes causes traffic congestion within the park. Finding parking can be difficult on busy days, so going early will make things easier. Since there are differences in sources regarding the entrance fee, I recommend confirming the current fee with Sivas Municipality or on-site before you go.

The shores of the two artificial lakes offer beautiful shots, especially in the morning light. On days when the waterfall is active, the flowing water makes for a good photo subject. The walking paths lined with pine and poplar trees are also suitable for nature photography enthusiasts.

Paşabahçe takes its name from the Ottoman period and in its current form was shaped by two artificial lakes built on the Aksu Stream in the 1960s. The area is operated by OGM, with a stated capacity of 1500 people. With facilities such as sports fields, gazebos, restaurants, and fountains, it has become one of the most preferred picnic areas for Sivas residents.
