Eğriçimen Plateau is located at an altitude of 1800 meters in Subaşı Neighborhood, connected to the Koyulhisar district of Sivas. It is situated in a valley extending from southwest to northwest, surrounded by red pine forests. Waters emerging from Şaşalağan Gorge and Yedigözler merge to form a stream that flows through the plateau; the plateau's name comes from the winding flow of this stream.
The area around the pond is where visitors spend most of their time. Comments frequently mention that the pond is full of fish, there is a small place by its side to drink tea, and the small meandering curves formed by the water add a special touch to the scenery. Peaceful areas designated for picnics and seating are also located around the pond. In spring, the plateau is covered with yellow and white daisies over its green carpet; during this period, salep orchids can also be seen, but picking them is forbidden and subject to severe fines.
The plateau offers accommodation facilities operated by the municipality; there are newly built plateau houses, restaurant, and hotel options in the vicinity. When to Visit?
The plateau is accessible year-round via an asphalt road, but it is at its most vibrant in the summer months. In July and August, the weather is cool, and the pine forest and pond area are at their peak greenery. In spring, during May-June, the plateau is covered with yellow and white daisies over its green carpet; salep orchids also bloom during this period. In winter, the plateau remains covered in snow, making visits difficult.
How to Get There?
Turn towards Koyulhisar from the Tokat-Erzincan highway, also known as Dereyolu, and from there, the plateau center is reached via a 17 km asphalt road. The road is open year-round. If coming from Sivas city center, the distance is approximately 189 km. Going by your own car is the most comfortable method, as public transportation options are limited.
How Many Days to Allocate?
For a day trip, 3-5 hours are sufficient: this time allows for walking around the pond, picnicking, and taking photos. Since there are accommodation facilities operated by the municipality, those who wish to visit other nearby plateaus (such as Kengercik, Arpacık, Sarıçicek) may prefer to stay for 1-2 nights.
Route Suggestion
After departing from Koyulhisar center and reaching the plateau entrance, it makes sense to first explore the area around the pond; there are seating areas and a spot to drink tea here. The shoreline of the pond and the small meandering curves formed by the water are among the most preferred shots. In spring, meadows covered with daisies and salep orchids also attract attention for photography. Walking paths through the pine forest offer a beautiful texture, especially in the morning light.
