Korgan Plateaus and Hamlets

Since it is a plateau region, the main season is summer. From June to September, the weather is cool, and the greenery is vibrant. July is particularly preferred because traditional festivals are held in the plateaus during this month. Those who want to coincide with these events, where the local people gather, can choose July. As road conditions can be difficult in winter, the summer-autumn period is more suitable for a visit.

It is 67 km from Ordu city center to Korgan district. After reaching Korgan, the road to the plateaus continues for another 25 km. This last section is a stabilized road, meaning it is not asphalt, but a compacted earth-stone mixture. It can be driven with a normal passenger car, but careful driving is required on rainy days. If you do not have your own vehicle, you can inquire about minibus services from Korgan district center to the plateaus.

Visiting a single hamlet or plateau takes half a day. If you want to have a picnic at the İtenişi recreation area and visit Çiseli Waterfall, it is more comfortable to set aside a full day. It is possible to visit multiple plateaus, such as Armutalan and Çayıralan, on the same day, but you should plan considering the distances between the roads.

After arriving in Korgan, first go to the İtenişi locality and have lunch there under the hornbeam trees. Afterwards, you can reach Çiseli Waterfall with a short walk. If you have time, visit Armutalan or Turnalık Plateau to see the region's view from above. If you are going in July, confirm the festival program in advance with Korgan Municipality or local sources.

Since the road is stabilized, it can be slippery, especially in rainy weather. The number of markets or shops in the plateau region is limited, so it is more practical to get your food and drink supplies from Korgan center before setting off. Cell phone reception may be weak in some hamlets, so it would be beneficial to make important calls along the way.

The rock face where Çiseli Waterfall cascades and the surrounding meander provide a good background for photography. The İtenişi path through the hornbeam forest is suitable for those who want to capture different shades of green, especially in the morning light. Wide-angle shots taken from high plateaus, such as Armutalan and Turnalık, also reflect the region's topography well.

Eleven different settlements are counted in the Korgan region: Armutalan Plateau, Çayıralan Plateau, Çobantepe Hamlet, Göltepesi Hamlet, Kürtünlü Hamlet, Eğricesu Hamlet, Düzdağ Hamlet, Turnalık Plateau, Osmankolu Hamlet, Taşkesik Hamlet, and Tepealan Hamlet. Each has its own unique settlement structure. Some consist of small hamlet houses, while others are larger plateau areas. It is difficult to visit all of them in a single visit; it is a more realistic plan to prioritize and choose a few.
