Çamaş Hisarbey Village Rock Tomb

Since the rock tomb is an open-air structure carved into the main rock, there are almost no seasonal restrictions. However, in summer, the humid Black Sea air and the vegetation on the village road can make the visit a bit challenging. Late spring to early autumn is a more comfortable period for both travel and photography. On rainy days, the dirt parts of the village road might be slippery, so keep that in mind.

From Ordu city center to Çamaş by road is 53 kilometers, taking approximately one hour by car. For those coming via Fatsa, the distance is reduced to 20 kilometers. From Çamaş district center to Hisarbey village, it's about 4 kilometers. The most practical way to cover this last part is by private car or taxi. Since public transportation is limited on this route, plan to go with your own vehicle.

20-30 minutes is enough to explore the tomb itself. However, a total of eight rock tombs are registered in the Çamaş district; if you are interested in history, it might be logical to plan a one-day route and see the other tombs in the region. If visiting alone, incorporating it into a half-day Çamaş trip and combining it with other points in the district will allow you to use your time more efficiently.

The triangular pediment relief at the entrance appears more distinct with side lighting in the afternoon; in the early morning, it might be shadowed. For the side niche and the interior of the tomb chamber, a flashlight or phone light might be useful, as natural light does not sufficiently reach the depths of the chamber. The sarcophagus-like hollow on the exterior also stands out as an interesting detail in general shots.

This is not an officially operated museum or archaeological site with staff at the entrance; it is a historical remnant preserved in its natural state within village land. Information panels in the vicinity may be limited, so confirming its location with a few photos beforehand will make your job easier. The structural condition of the tomb chamber is old; be careful when entering and avoid activities like climbing.

Çamaş is a mountainous and rugged Central Black Sea district known for its hazelnut production. The registration of eight separate rock tombs within the district borders indicates that the region was used as a settlement or burial ground in ancient times. This tomb in Hisarbey village stands out among them with its relief ornamentation and mysterious niche detail. The lack of comprehensive archaeological excavations in the region also makes it difficult to date the tomb and fully understand its function.
