Özbekler House

Özbekler House is a 19th-century civil architectural structure located in Camikebir Neighborhood in the Menteşe district of Muğla. Also known as Hacı Hamzalar and Ali Rıza Özbek House, the mansion, with its approximately 225-year history, is among the most striking structures of Muğla's historical urban fabric. Original architectural elements such as an earthen roof, wooden pillars, and three arches are still in place today.

Transferred to the Muğla Museum in 1987, the building was opened to visitors after restoration work carried out by the Muğla Metropolitan Municipality. Official sources describe the building as a mansion and pavilion type, an example of civil architecture belonging to Ottoman culture.

Muğla's summer months are quite hot; April–June and September–October are much more comfortable for visiting historical structures. In the early morning, the weather is cool, and your chances of encountering crowds in the narrow historical streets are lower.

Özbekler House is located on Şeyh Cami Street in Camikebir Neighborhood, within walking distance of Muğla city center. After arriving at the city center from Muğla bus station by dolmuş or taxi, it is possible to reach it on foot.

If you are coming by car, the streets of the historical neighborhood are quite narrow, so it will be more practical to park your car at a nearby point and walk. Since Kurşunlu Mosque and Muğla Museum are also nearby, you can create a walking route to visit these structures on the same day.

Özbekler House combines the characteristic elements of traditional Muğla architecture. The earthen roof, wooden pillars, and the three arches in the interior are the most interesting details for photography. The exterior facade of the building and its appearance with the narrow street texture also provide a good background for strong shots.

Shooting in the morning hours when natural light is best, or in the afternoon when the light softens, makes the wooden and stone textures more prominent.

The historical center of Muğla, where Özbekler House is located, is surrounded by small cafes and restaurants. There is a place known as Özbekler Evi Narr Cafe near the building; it is a nice option for those who want to have a drink in the atmosphere of a traditional Muğla house.

In Muğla cuisine, Muğla böreği, höşmerim, and various olive oil appetizers are among the prominent flavors. Artisan restaurants in the city center offer affordable options for daily home-cooked meals.

Özbekler House is a natural part of a walking route designed to explore historic Muğla. You can also visit the following structures on the same day:

Kurşunlu Mosque → Ulu Mosque → Özbekler House → Muğla Museum → Historic Muğla Houses. All these points are within walking distance; they can be easily completed within half to a full day.
