Gazipaşa Primary School is a historic building with carved stone decorations in Mardin's Şar Neighborhood, whose construction began in 1892 as a Syriac merchant's mansion and has been used as a school since 1934.
Gazipaşa Primary School stands out as a still-active educational institution right in the heart of Mardin's historical fabric. Its construction began in 1892 by master architect Lole and was completed in 1907 as the mansion of a wealthy merchant named Cebbur from the Syriac Orthodox Community. The building, also known as Beyt Cebbure, was sold to Mardin Deputy Abdurrezzak Şatana in the early years of the Republic, and then passed into the hands of the Special Provincial Administration Directorate. It has been providing uninterrupted education since 1934.
Each floor of the four-story building is designed for a different function: the ground floor houses a cellar and stable, the second floor has a large hall and eight rooms, the third floor has three rooms, and the fourth floor contains ten rooms. The interiors of the rooms are adorned with carved stone decorations, and the craftsmanship of each room is distinct from the others. Today, 128 students are educated in 16 classrooms. Since the school is an active educational institution, it is not possible to enter, but its exterior facade and stone masonry are considered a special stop for those who want to see Mardin's civil architecture.
