Artuklu Caravanserai

Artuklu Caravanserai was built in 1275 during the Artuqid Period to serve as an accommodation and goods storage facility along the caravan route. During the pre-Republic era, it was used as a school for a while, and then it passed into the ownership of the Mungan family. The structure changed hands for different purposes over time; in its current form, it has been restored and serves as a hotel. Its thick stone walls and arched courtyard bear the traces of an architectural history of approximately 800 years.

Mardin gets quite hot during summer afternoons, and the stone structure can be considered a cool resting point during these hours. Spring and autumn months are more comfortable for both the weather and sightseeing in the city. In winter, the interior of stone buildings can remain damp and cold; some visitors report feeling this in the rooms.
