Çobanlı Mansion is a three-story stone Ottoman-era mansion located north of Arapgir; with its courtyard entrance and simple stone craftsmanship, it is one of the rare examples reflecting the region's mansion architecture.
Çobanlı Mansion rises within a garden in the Çobanlı Neighborhood, from which it takes its name, in the northern part of Arapgir district center. It is a three-story stone structure. Wooden tie beams were placed between the stones during wall construction to ensure stability, a technique favored by the master builders of the period. Spanning an area of 218 square meters, the mansion reflects a robust but unpretentious architecture.
Upon entering, you first pass through a courtyard, then reach the mansion itself. The first floor is reserved for storage and service areas. The second floor was used as a selamlik (men's quarters) and harem (women's quarters), in accordance with traditional Ottoman house arrangements. The stairs, railings, and flat ceilings are made of wood; the floors vary by room, with some being stone and others wood-covered. Niches carved into the walls as cupboards are noteworthy, but there are no inscriptions, ornaments, or elaborate details. This simplicity is the main feature that distinguishes the mansion from Arapgir's more ornate mansions.
Before restoration, the exterior facade of the second and third floors and the roof were covered with sheet metal. These sheets were removed during restoration, and the structure was restored to its stone texture. Today, the mansion is a quiet, secluded stop for those who want to see Arapgir's mansion architecture up close.
