Yazır Mosque (Hacı Ömer Ağa Mosque)

While the mosque is open to visitors year-round, spring and autumn are the most favorable periods for comfortably exploring both the nature around Acıpayam and the structure itself. In summer, the Denizli region can be quite hot; even if the mosque's interior remains cool during midday, caution should be exercised on the road to the village. Since it fills with congregants during prayer times, the hours between services are much more suitable for those who wish to examine the decorations and architecture in detail.

Yazır Mosque is located in Yazır (Dodurga) Village, Acıpayam district, approximately 60 km from Denizli city center. By private car, you can follow the Denizli–Acıpayam highway to the district center, then turn onto the village road. Minibus services run from Denizli bus terminal to Acıpayam; after arriving at the district center, it is possible to reach the village by taxi or village minibuses. The most impressive photographic area of the mosque is its interior. The kalem işi ceiling decorations are best framed with a wide-angle lens or vertical shots. The geometric motifs, crafted with natural root dyes, offer a rich subject for detailed photography in soft natural light. On the exterior, the corner where the hipped roof, minaret, and large courtyard are visible together is a good choice for those wishing to document the overall architecture of the structure. Built in 1801, Yazır Mosque is one of the unique examples of the Ottoman-era village mosque tradition in Anatolia. The rectangular-plan structure is divided into three naves along the mihrab axis by six independent and ten wooden columns; this arrangement holds special value in architectural history as it carries the legacy of 13th-century Seljuk wooden-pillared mosques into the 19th century. The arrangement of windows in two rows and the wooden women's gallery are among the elements that complete the structure's load-bearing system.

Yazır is a deeply rooted Yörük settlement. The kalem işi decorations covering the ceiling and wall surfaces are geometric patterns from Yörük rugs transferred onto the architectural surface with natural root dyes. This unique synthesis elevates the structure beyond merely a place of worship, making it a tangible document of local culture. Protected as a registered historical monument by the Ministry of Culture, the mosque largely preserves its original decorations.

Since Yazır Village is a small settlement, finding a restaurant within the village is difficult. If you are planning to eat, heading to Acıpayam district center is much more practical. In local restaurants in Acıpayam, you can find meat dishes specific to the Denizli region, village breakfast, and homemade pastries. For those planning their visit in the morning, taking a breakfast break in the district center is both a practical and enjoyable option.

Yazır Mosque can be explored with a focused visit of 30–45 minutes. If you plan to take photos or note architectural details, this period may extend up to an hour. When you add the structure to other natural and cultural points in the Acıpayam district, it is possible to create a half-day itinerary. It can also be considered as a roadside stop on the Denizli–Antalya or Denizli–Muğla routes.

As the mosque is an active place of worship, you are expected to remove your shoes when entering and dress appropriately. Female visitors are required to cover their heads; a thin scarf is sufficient. Village roads can be narrow; if you are going with large vehicles, prefer to park in a suitable spot near the village entrance and walk. The interior lighting of the mosque is limited, so a flashlight or phone light will be useful for those who want to take photos.
