Servergazi Tomb

Spring and autumn months are the most favorable periods for visiting the tomb. During these seasons, the centuries-old plane and oak trees offer both shade and add a distinct beauty to the surroundings. In summer, the shade of the trees keeps the area around the tomb cool; however, the sun can be quite intense at noon. Visiting in the early morning hours is a good choice for a calmer atmosphere.

You can reach the tomb from Denizli city center by minibuses and public buses operating on the Servergazi or Gerzele lines. If you are using a private car, simply head towards Server Gazi town from the Merkez Efendi district; the tomb is located on a hill in the town, near the mountain slope. Since it is quite close to the city center, you can easily add it to your itinerary while exploring Denizli.

Servergazi is one of the important commanders of the Anatolian Seljuk period. It is stated that Servergazi, who played a decisive role in the Denizli plain becoming a Turkish homeland, was martyred in 1210 in the battle against the Laodiceans at Deretekke Mevkii, alongside Mehmet Gazi. Due to this historical importance, the tomb is considered not only a place of worship but also a tangible part of Denizli's founding story.

The current tomb structure was built in 1992 by the then-governor. It contains a total of two sarcophagi, one belonging to Servergazi and another to a soldier who fought alongside him. The tomb, evaluated under the scope of Protection of Cultural and Natural Assets, is considered one of Denizli's prominent stops for faith and cultural tourism.

The centuries-old plane and oak trees around the tomb offer striking frames, especially with their colorful leaves in autumn. Its location near the mountain slope provides a commanding view of the surroundings. The architectural details of the tomb's entrance and sarcophagi are also noteworthy subjects for photography.

The tomb is located in the Merkez Efendi district, close to Denizli city center. After your visit, you can find Denizli's famous kebab varieties, tandoor meat, and local desserts in restaurants in the city center. There are also small coffee houses and tea gardens around Merkez Efendi.

The tomb is a religious site; a quiet and respectful demeanor is expected during your visit. Female visitors are advised to cover their heads. The adjacent mosque can become crowded during prayer times; you can plan your visit accordingly. Due to the tomb's location near a mountain slope, it is advisable to wear comfortable walking shoes.

30 to 60 minutes is sufficient to visit the tomb. This time may extend slightly for those who wish to take a short walk in the surrounding wooded area or visit the mosque. It is also possible to combine it with other historical and cultural sites in Denizli to create a half-day itinerary.
