Keloğlan Cave

Keloğlan Cave is open to visitors all year round, but in spring and autumn, the surrounding nature is at its most vibrant. In summer, the inside of the cave remains significantly cooler compared to the outside; this adds a special charm to the visit for those looking to cool down on a hot day. In winter, the weather around Acıpayam can be cold and occasionally rainy, so it's a good idea to check road conditions before setting off. Visitor density increases on weekends and holidays, so if you want a quieter visit, you can choose weekdays.

The easiest way to reach the cave is by private car. After covering approximately 60 km from Denizli city center to Acıpayam, you need to drive another 18 km in the direction of Dodurgalar Neighborhood. The cave is located on the eastern slope of Mallı Mountain, approximately 3 km west of Dodurgalar.

Those who wish to come by public transport can take buses with regular services from Denizli bus terminal to Acıpayam. To reach the cave from Acıpayam, taking a taxi or renting a car in the region is the most practical solution. Planning a route combined with nearby historical sites such as the Ancient City of Kibyra will allow you to use your time efficiently and balance travel expenses.

Although Keloğlan Cave alone does not fill a full day's program, when combined with other points in the region, a satisfying itinerary emerges. During the day, you can first visit the Ancient City of Kibyra (Gölhisar, Burdur), and then stop at Keloğlan Cave on your way back to Denizli. Visitors also recommend this exact route; the cave being on the way makes it easy to see with a short stop. After the cave, a lunch break can be taken in the Acıpayam district center.

The cave's touring area is 145 meters long, and the route is quite compact. Visitors state that they can comfortably explore the cave in an average of 10 to 30 minutes. You can allocate an extra 15-20 minutes to relax at the cafeteria at the entrance and enjoy the surrounding view. If you are combining the cave with other points in the region, planning a full day for the entire itinerary will be sufficient.

The lighting system inside the cave highlights the stalactites and stalagmites very well; photos taken in front of these formations are among the most popular shots. If you are using a wide-angle lens, it is possible to create a sense of depth in the narrow corridors. At the cave entrance, the view of the Mallı Mountain slope offers a beautiful outdoor shooting opportunity. Keep in mind that using flash can damage the formations, so try to use the cave's own lighting as much as possible.

Since the inside of the cave is cool, it is recommended to bring a light outer garment even in summer. Museum Pass is not valid in the cave; you need to buy your ticket at the entrance with cash or card. Although the walking route is relatively flat and comfortable, it is safer to choose closed-toe, rubber-soled shoes as the floor inside the cave can be slippery. There is no food service in the cafeteria; you may need to go to the Acıpayam district center for lunch.

Keloğlan Cave was discovered in 1990 during excavation works carried out by MTA. Arrangements were made to open it to tourism, and the cave was opened to visitors. Keloğlan, one of the 14 caves open to tourism in Turkey, is operated by Denizli Metropolitan Municipality. The cave is also known as Keloğlan's Den among the public. Visitors state that they liked the atmosphere inside, that the lighting beautifully highlighted the formations, and that the walking route was quite comfortable.
