Akköy Gölemezli Thermal Tourism Center

Akköy Gölemezli Thermal Tourism Center is a thermal health center located in Denizli's geothermal-rich geography, just north of Pamukkale. There are four different geothermal sources in the region; these sources have different mineral contents and characteristics. Especially the mud-like source is the main factor distinguishing the center from other thermal springs in the region.

With its location adjacent to the borders of the Pamukkale Special Environmental Protection Area, the center is situated right next to the protected natural area. The ancient city of Tripolis is also close to this region, making it a suitable route for those who want to combine their thermal visit with a historical trip.

Although thermal centers can be visited regardless of the season, spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) months stand out for Gölemezli. During these periods, the outdoor air temperature is mild, making the outdoor pool experience more enjoyable. In summer, Denizli's temperature can rise quite high; therefore, it is more logical to plan summer visits for the morning hours. In winter, the warmth of the thermal water makes bathing outdoors attractive.

The most practical way to reach the center is by private car. From Denizli city center, follow the highway towards Pamukkale for approximately 15 km, then turn towards Gölemezli town from Pamukkale Mahallesi. Alternatively, you can use the Gölemezli and Akköy road via Pamukkale Tepköy; this route crosses the Menderes River valley.

The distance from Denizli city center is approximately 20 km. Since public transport connections are limited, renting a car or taking a taxi from Denizli or Pamukkale is a more reliable option.

As Gölemezli town itself is a small settlement, it does not offer extensive dining options. There are numerous restaurants and cafes in Pamukkale and Karahayıt, approximately 15-20 km away. For höşmerim dessert, Denizli pan, and local olive oil dishes, which are symbols of Denizli cuisine, you can visit restaurants in Pamukkale or Denizli city center.

Gölemezli Thermal Center is a stop that can be fitted into the same day as a visit to Pamukkale. You can visit Pamukkale travertines and Hierapolis in the morning and then proceed to Gölemezli in the afternoon. The ancient city of Tripolis is also on this route, making it an additional stop for those interested in history. It is possible to visit all three points in one day; however, for a relaxed pace, spreading it over two days provides a better experience.

If you plan to experience a mud bath, it is important to bring an old swimsuit or clothes that you don't mind getting muddy. Mineral-rich mud may not come off light-colored textiles. Since there are four different geothermal sources in the region, the mineral content and temperature of each source may vary; it is best to learn on-site which pool or bath has which characteristics. Gölemezli Thermal Center is located within the Menderes River valley. The natural landscape along the valley and the steam indicating the region's geothermal activity may attract those who want to take photos.
