Beyağaç Topuklu Plateau

The most suitable period to visit Topuklu Plateau is between late May and early September. The 1700-meter altitude provides cool weather even in summer, acting as a natural air conditioner for those wishing to escape Denizli's scorching heat. On weekends in June-August, it can be crowded with picnic groups; if you want a quieter experience, it would be more appropriate to choose weekdays. From October onwards, due to the high altitude, the weather gets significantly colder and road conditions may become difficult.

The most practical way to reach Topuklu Plateau is by private car. After passing through Beyağaç district from Denizli city center, you need to follow the plateau road; the distance from the town center to the plateau is approximately 20 kilometers. Since there are forest routes along the way, a high-traction or at least a vehicle with sturdy suspension should be preferred. Public transportation options are quite limited; car rental or local tour organizations can be considered. It is recommended to confirm road conditions from Beyağaç Municipality or local sources before going.

If you are coming solely for a picnic and the view, half a day to a full day is sufficient. For those planning tent camping, staying for one or two nights will allow you to better experience the atmosphere of the plateau; especially at sunset and sunrise, the Gökova Bay view takes on a different appearance. Those who want to explore the region more comprehensively by combining it with Kartal Lake in Beyağaç can prepare a two-day program.

Starting from Denizli, first pass through Beyağaç town center and stop by Kartal Lake. Then, follow the plateau road to Topuklu Plateau. Upon arrival at the plateau, you can first explore the drinking water springs and settle into the picnic areas. In the afternoon, take a short walk to the hills west of the plateau to enjoy the Gökova Bay view. If you are not camping, you can relax at a local cafe in Beyağaç on your way back.

The most impressive photo spot of Topuklu Plateau is the hills to the west of the plateau; from here, the wide panorama of Gökova Bay can be framed. The 1200-year-old black pine trees within the plateau also offer powerful shots with both their size and trunk texture. It's worth getting up early to catch the rays of light hitting the forest in the early morning hours. If you are tent camping, the high altitude and low light pollution also provide advantageous conditions for starry sky photography.

Due to the high altitude, the weather can change suddenly; it is recommended to bring a windbreaker or a light jacket even in summer. Before lighting a campfire, be sure to learn the rules of the area and the risk of fire; careless fire lighting in forest areas can lead to serious dangers. Since there are no markets or shops on the plateau, meet your food, drink, and fuel needs from Beyağaç town center before heading up. Take your trash back with you; maintaining the cleanliness of the area is the shared responsibility of visitors.

There are no food and beverage facilities on Topuklu Plateau itself. You need to obtain your picnic supplies and food from Beyağaç town center. Local cheeses, olive oil, and dried fruits produced by the local people in the region are ideal options for a plateau picnic. Although there are small restaurants and cafes in Beyağaç, options are limited; for a wider dining experience, you may need to return to Denizli city center.
