Osmancık Başpınar Karaca Plateau

From Çorum city center, you head towards Osmancık via Laçin. 15 km before reaching Osmancık district, you will see the Başpınar Village sign and turn right. There is another 8 km from the village to the plateau, and this part is a dirt road. You need to go with your own vehicle, there is no dolmuş or public transport option. Since the road can become muddy in rainy weather, if possible, prefer a high-chassis vehicle.

The plateau comes alive in summer; tents are set up in July-August. The coolness is attractive for those wanting to escape the hot city air, but towards the end of summer, complaints about mosquitoes and flies increase. Some visitors therefore recommend families with children to visit in late spring-early summer. In winter, the plateau is almost deserted, and the possibility of snow closure should also be considered.

The main activity on the plateau is hiking. The trail starting from Karaca Plateau passes through Çiçekli Düz Tepe and Cinci Tepe areas and ends at Köklen Recreation Area. The total length is 15 kilometers, all within forested land. You need to plan for half a day and take enough water with you, as there is no guarantee of water sources along the trail.

3-4 hours are sufficient for just a picnic and a short walk. For those who want to set up a tent and stay overnight, 1-2 nights are ideal; the plateau infrastructure is suitable for this type of accommodation, with water available at many points. It is logical to allocate a separate day for those who want to complete the trekking trail, as the 15 km forest walk takes time.

There are no accommodation options on the plateau other than tents. Those looking for a hotel or guesthouse must go down to Osmancık town center or Çorum city center. Campers are advised to bring their own tents; there are no tent rental or equipment services available.

The two most frequently repeated warnings in visitor comments are: toilet cleanliness and insect risk. The maintenance of the area can sometimes be insufficient, so it's a good idea to collect and take your trash with you. The danger of ticks is common in Central Anatolian plateaus; long-sleeved clothing and repellent spray will be useful. Towards the end of summer, mosquito and fly density can increase; families with small children should be cautious during this period. The presence of cattle and dogs near the picnic area is also a concern for some visitors.

The paths passing through the pine forest and the vicinity of Çiçekli Düz Tepe stand out in terms of scenery. Moments when the morning mist hangs over the forest offer valuable opportunities for photography. A wide forest view can be seen from the Cinci Tepe area.
