Okçu Baba Tomb

This small structure, standing opposite Saltanat Gate in Bursa's Hisar region, is dedicated to Okçu Baba, who is said to have played a role in the city's conquest. The tomb, also known as the Nusret Pasha Tomb, is estimated to have been built in the 14th century. The square-plan structure, measuring approximately 3.45 x 3.45 meters, draws attention not for its size but for the story it carries. Its location on Osmangazi Street, next to the Bursa Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism building, makes it a natural part of Hisar region walks.

The tomb can be visited throughout the year; however, considering Bursa's summer heat, spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) periods are much more pleasant. For those who want to explore the Hisar region on foot, early morning hours offer both a cool and calm environment. If you combine the tomb with Saltanat Gate, the City Walls, and other historical structures in the vicinity, you get a nice half-day itinerary.

The tomb is located in Bursa's Osmangazi district, on Osmangazi Street. It is possible to reach the Hisar region from Bursa city center by walking or by municipal buses. Saltanat Gate is directly opposite the tomb, making it a good reference point for navigation. Its location next to the Bursa Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism building also makes it easy to find. If you are coming by car, it would be advisable to choose a nearby parking lot, considering the narrow streets of the Hisar region.

Since Okçu Baba Tomb is located right in the middle of Bursa's walled Hisar region, a nice walking route can be created by combining it with surrounding historical sites. You can start from Saltanat Gate and continue along the City Walls, then visit Okçu Baba Tomb. From here, it is also possible to walk to the Tophane region to reach the tombs of Osman Gazi and Orhan Gazi. This entire route takes approximately half a day and offers the opportunity to see traces of Bursa's early Ottoman period all together.

Although the tomb itself is modest in size, the historical texture around it creates an interesting backdrop for photos. Capturing Saltanat Gate and the tomb in the same frame can be a good choice to reflect the historical atmosphere of the region. In the morning light or near sunset, the stone texture of the tomb and the surrounding walls gain a more distinct appearance. The old Bursa houses you will encounter while wandering through the narrow streets of the Hisar region are also valuable photo spots.

The Hisar region and its surroundings, where Okçu Baba Tomb is located, are convenient for tasting Bursa's traditional flavors. There are well-established restaurants in the region serving İskender kebap; trying this unique Bursa delicacy right in the historical heart of the city has a special meaning. Candied chestnuts are one of the iconic tastes sold in patisseries and confectionery shops in the vicinity. Since it is within walking distance of the Tophane region, the cafes there are also a good option for a break.

Since the tomb is a small structure, the visit duration is quite short; planning it with surrounding historical sites makes for a more efficient trip. Considering it is a religious site, it would be appropriate to adopt a quiet and respectful attitude during the visit. We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes due to the cobblestone and inclined streets of the Hisar region. Wheelchair and stroller access is difficult due to the topography of the area.
