Pozantı Armutoğlu Plateau

The ideal period to visit Armutoğlu Plateau is the summer season, extending from early June to late September. During these months, the plateau offers a cool and refreshing climate, in stark contrast to the scorching heat of the Adana plain. In July and August, the plateau experiences its busiest period; picnic areas and camping spots attract intense interest.

May is a good alternative for those who prefer tranquility, as the crowds have not yet arrived, nature is just coming alive, and the plateau offers its freshest green. In winter, due to snowfall and adverse road conditions, it is necessary to check the current weather and road status before visiting.

The easiest way to reach Armutoğlu Plateau is by private car. From Adana city center, take the highway and reach Pozantı district in approximately 45 minutes. From there, turn east at the Ankara road junction towards Sarımsak Mountain, and after driving another 13 km, you will arrive at the plateau entrance. While the road is generally asphalt, the last sections may include unpaved dirt roads, so choosing a high-clearance vehicle will enhance comfort.

Those wishing to come by public transport can reach Pozantı from Adana by bus or train. The train journey between Adana and Pozantı takes approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes. From Pozantı district center, you will need to continue to the plateau by taxi or rental car.

Armutoğlu Plateau is a very fertile area for nature photographers. The mixed forest formed by cedar and fir trees creates a captivating atmosphere in the early morning hours when sunlight filters through the trees. The hours immediately after sunrise are ideal for capturing these plays of light.

The plateau also offers significant opportunities for wildlife observation and photography. Quietly wandering in the early morning is the most effective method to photograph wild goats and other local animals. Additionally, wide-angle shots of the Taurus Mountains silhouette from the plateau clearings also produce impressive frames.

Armutoğlu Plateau itself does not have a permanent restaurant or cafe infrastructure. The vast majority of visitors bring their picnic supplies and eat on the plateau. Barbecue and picnic areas are used to meet this need.

It is advisable to shop and procure fresh provisions in Pozantı town center before coming to the plateau. Pozantı hosts small restaurants offering simple and delicious representatives of Adana cuisine; having a meal here before heading up to the plateau can be a good start. It is also possible to stop in the town center on the way back.

Armutoğlu Plateau can easily be planned as a day trip from Adana or Pozantı. Half to a full day is sufficient for arrival at the plateau, a short nature walk, a picnic break, and the return journey.

If you are considering camping, a 1 to 2-night stay will allow you to experience the different atmospheres of the plateau in the morning and evening hours. This period can also be extended into a more comprehensive nature route covering other Pozantı plateaus such as Tekir Plateau, Aşar Plateau, or Belemedik.

Pozantı district has a geography highly suitable for exploring multiple plateaus within a single trip. You can set off from Adana early in the morning, first visit Armutoğlu Plateau, then return to Pozantı and head towards Tekir Plateau or Belemedik Plateau. Belemedik, stretching along the Çakıt River, is also a separate point of interest for observing wild goats and birds of prey.

Akçatekir Plateau, located 1700 meters above sea level, is also 17 km from Pozantı district and can be added to this route. To adequately explore each point on such a tour, it is advisable to allocate at least two days. We recommend researching road conditions in advance according to the season when planning your itinerary.

Since permanent facility infrastructure on the plateau is limited, it is important to carry sufficient water, food, and first aid supplies with you. If you plan to camp, don't forget to prepare your tent and sleeping bag; night temperatures can drop significantly even in summer months.

Respecting wildlife and not disturbing animals is critical for both your safety and the ecosystem. To contribute to the preservation of the natural area, take your trash back with you and adhere to designated areas when making fires. In winter and early spring months, it would be beneficial to confirm road conditions with the Pozantı District Governorship or local sources before setting off.
