Tekirdağ Hungarian Park (Peace and Freedom Park)

Located in the coastal reclamation area on the Marmara coast in Tekirdağ's Süleymanpaşa district, Hungarian Park, officially known as Peace and Freedom Park, is one of the city's busiest public spaces. The park bears this name dating back to 1717: Hungarian Prince II. Ferenc Rákóczi first set foot on this shore after seeking refuge in the Ottoman Empire and spent his last years in Tekirdağ. The restored park has been reorganized as a symbol of Turkish-Hungarian friendship to preserve this historical heritage.

It is possible to visit the park throughout the year, but the most enjoyable period is April-June and September-October. During these periods, the weather is neither scorching nor cold; ideal conditions for walking and picnicking are met. In summer, evening hours are preferred by those who want to cool off with the sea breeze from Marmara. Since the park can be quite crowded on weekends, those seeking a quiet visit can consider weekdays.

The park is close to Tekirdağ city center and easily accessible. Those wishing to come by public transport can choose city minibus lines that use the coastal route. For those coming by private car, it is possible to find parking along the coastline; arriving early in summer and on weekends will make it easier. The Rakoczi Museum is also located in the same area, so you can visit both spots at once.

For those visiting Tekirdağ for a day trip, a practical itinerary can be set up as follows: Start your morning at the Rakoczi Museum; examine the personal belongings of the Hungarian Prince and artifacts of Hungarian culture. Note that the museum is closed on Mondays. Then walk to Hungarian Park; take a short stroll along the coast, and take a break at one of the park's cafes.
