Cağalzade İbrahim Bey Fountain

The fountain was built in 1692 (Hijri 1103) by Cağalzade İbrahim Bey as a charitable endowment for the soul of Ahmet Bey. A typical example of the water endowment tradition during the Ottoman period, the structure served a religious and social function. The verses in the inscription clearly reveal both the purpose of the structure and its construction date. The Hijri year 1103 corresponds to 1692 AD.

The fountain is built of marble and belongs to the group of square-plan ablution fountains with four open facades. The structure consists of three main elements: a basin, a monolithic square-section pillar rising in the middle of the basin, and a finial on top of the pillar. There is a semi-circular arched niche on each of the four faces of the pillar; the edges are defined by profiled moldings. This design reflects the classical ablution fountain type of Ottoman fountain architecture.

As it is an open-air structure located on a street, it can be visited at any time throughout the year. With Tekirdağ's mild Marmara climate, spring and autumn months are the most suitable periods for walking around. In summer, temperatures can rise in the afternoon, so morning or late afternoon might be preferred.

The fountain is located in Tekirdağ city center, at the corner where Muratlı Street and Kolordu Street intersect, opposite Atatürk Primary School. You can reach it by walking from the city center or by following the Muratlı Street route with minibuses and dolmuşes. For those arriving by car, street-side parking is available.

The fountain's four open facades offer opportunities for taking photos from different angles. To capture the most comprehensive shot, you can shoot from the opposite sidewalk or a corner angle. It is possible to get much cleaner shots without the crowd of vehicles in the background by visiting early in the morning, around 08:00-09:00, before traffic gets heavy.

There is a tea shop right next to the fountain; it is possible to take a break there after your visit. Tekirdağ city center is known for its meatball and meze culture. Around the fountain, while exploring the historical texture of the city, you can find many restaurants and cafeterias serving Tekirdağ meatballs.

You can combine the Cağalzade İbrahim Bey Fountain with other historical structures in Tekirdağ city center to create a half-day walking route. Nearby historical structures include Rüstem Pasha Mosque, Bedesten Bazaar, and Acı Fountain. Hasan Efendi Mosque is also within walking distance. You can complete this route in the morning and have lunch at one of the city's famous meatball restaurants.
