Yeşiltepe Mound is an ancient settlement area dating back to 2000 BC, located east of the Silopi municipality building. Ceramic fragments can be seen on the slopes of the mound, which is arranged as a park covered with trees; its peak is reached by stairs, and entry is free.
Yeşiltepe Mound stands right in the middle of Silopi, just east of the municipality building. With dimensions of 90 meters in the north-south direction and 95 meters in the east-west direction, it is one of the highest points in the city center. It is surrounded by wire fencing and has been transformed into a park area with trees.
The peak is reached by stairs. The top has been flattened and seating areas have been installed. Thus, the mound functions both as an archaeological site and a park used daily by the local residents. The most striking part is the slopes: ceramic fragments are visible to the naked eye on the surface, and experts estimate that these may date back to 2000 BC. It is not an excavated area, but the mound itself is a concrete trace showing how far back Silopi's settlement history goes.
It is not a place to visit with the expectation of a large museum or ancient ruin site. If you are already going to Silopi or taking a short break in the city center, climbing the mound to see both the view and the ceramic traces on the surface will take a few minutes.

Silopi is a region known for its high temperatures in summer. Since the mound is an open-air area with limited shade, spring or autumn months, or morning hours during the summer, provide a more comfortable visit. In winter, consider that the stairs might be wet due to potential rainfall.

Yeşiltepe Mound is located in the Silopi district center, east of the municipality building. You can reach Silopi from Şırnak city center by private car or intercity minibuses. Once you arrive in Silopi center, the mound is within walking distance or a short dolmuş ride.
