Kütahya Bedestens are the Grand and Small Bedesten structures built by Gedik Ahmet Pasha in the 15th century, located between the Takvacılar and Saadettin mosques in the city center; they were restored in 2008 and are now open for visitors.
In the old bazaar texture of Kütahya, two bedestens stand side by side between Takvacılar Mosque and Saadettin Mosque: the Grand Bedesten and the Small Bedesten. Kavaflar Street passes between them, making them appear together like a covered bazaar. Both were built in the 15th century by Gedik Ahmet Pasha, one of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror's pashas. They are referred to as "Arasta Shops" in endowment records, while Evliya Çelebi used the name "Grand Bedesten" in his Seyahatname (Book of Travels).
The Grand Bedesten was long known among the public as the "Vegetable Bedesten"; until 2008, fruits and vegetables were sold here. The Small Bedesten was used as a place for buying and selling second-hand goods during the same period. In 2008, both structures were restored. The Grand Bedesten with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the Small Bedesten by the Kütahya Municipality. Visitors appreciate the texture of the buildings and their stone craftsmanship.
