Beyşehir Stork Valley

The most suitable period to visit Stork Valley is from mid-April to late July. Storks migrating from Africa settle in the valley during these months, build nests, and raise their young. Early mornings and late afternoons are when the storks are most active; during these hours, you will have a much more productive experience for both observation and photography. From late August onwards, a large part of the colony prepares for migration, and the valley gradually becomes quieter. It is not possible to encounter storks during the winter months.

Stork Valley is located approximately 30 kilometers from Beyşehir district center, in Yeşilbağ Neighborhood. Regular bus services operate from Konya city center to Beyşehir; after reaching Beyşehir, you can continue to Yeşilbağ by local minibus or taxi. If you are using a private car, it is sufficient to follow the Beyşehir-Yeşilbağ route, the road is generally in good condition. If you are coming from Konya, the route along the coast of Beyşehir Lake is both practical and visually very pleasant.

To capture the best photographs in the valley, prefer early mornings; during these times when the light is soft, stork flight and nesting activity are also at their highest. Avoid standing too close to the tree groups where nests are concentrated; positioning yourself at a slight distance yields better results, both to avoid disturbing the animals and to achieve a wider composition. Don't forget to bring a telephoto or long-focal-length lens if you have one. Angles where Beyşehir Lake is visible in the background, when combined with the storks, create quite impressive shots.

Since Yeşilbağ Neighborhood is a small settlement, it is difficult to find comprehensive restaurant options around the valley. When you return to Beyşehir district center, the situation changes: freshwater fish caught in Beyşehir Lake, especially carp and zander, are among the region's most well-known delicacies. In addition to eating fresh fish at lakeside restaurants, you can also try Konya cuisine's indispensable 'etli ekmek' (meat bread) and 'fırın kebabı' (oven kebab) here. If you are planning a long nature walk, do not forget to bring snacks and water.

The closest accommodation options to Stork Valley are located in Beyşehir district center. Beyşehir has boutique hotels, guesthouses, and small facilities with lake views. For a wider range of hotels, you can choose Konya city center; organizing a day trip from Konya to Beyşehir is also a very common option. It is recommended to make reservations in advance, as accommodation facilities in Beyşehir may be full during the summer season.

Since Stork Valley is within the borders of Beyşehir Lake National Park, avoiding any behavior that harms nature is both a legal obligation and an ethical responsibility. Do not approach stork nests; sudden noises and movements can scare the birds away from their nests. Maintaining distance is especially important during the period when there are young (May-June). It is advisable to wear sturdy shoes as the roads can sometimes be unpaved. Since the number of facilities around the valley is limited, procure your water and snacks in advance.

Thanks to this broadcast, even those who cannot go to the valley or who are curious about the storks' most active hours at night can follow the life of the colony.
