Lake Beyşehir

The most suitable periods to visit Lake Beyşehir are April–June and September–October. In spring, the lake surroundings turn green, the weather is cool and refreshing, and crowds have not yet peaked. In early autumn, the water's color deepens, the surrounding trees begin to change color, creating a truly beautiful atmosphere for photography.

During July–August, many visitors escaping the inner parts of Konya prefer the lake, causing the shore areas to become crowded. Coming early in the morning during this period makes it easier to find parking and offers the opportunity to see the lake in its calm state. In winter, the lake becomes deserted; due to cold and windy weather, a visit might not be very comfortable.

The Beyşehir district, located on the lake's shore, is approximately 92 km from Konya city center. Regular bus and minibus services depart from Konya bus terminal to Beyşehir throughout the day; the journey takes approximately 1.5–2 hours. If you are coming with your own vehicle, simply follow the D695 highway from Konya; the road is smooth and well-marked.

Once you reach Beyşehir town center, the lake shore is within walking distance. To reach Mada Island and other islands, you can rent a boat from the pier area or join organized boat tours. For those coming from outside Konya, the most practical option is to fly to Konya, then transfer to Beyşehir by road.

The freshwater fish of Lake Beyşehir are central to the regional cuisine. Various freshwater fish, especially carp, pike, and catfish caught from the lake, are served fresh in restaurants along the lake shore. Grilled or pan-fried fish, served with rice and seasonal salad, forms a classic Beyşehir meal.

Influences of Konya cuisine are also felt: oven kebab, 'etli ekmek' (meat bread), and local soups can be found in restaurants in the town center. Watching the lake with a cup of tea at the small cafes and buffets along the shore is an indispensable part of the visit.

The most photographed moments at Lake Beyşehir are sunset hours. Vuslat Park and the pier area along the lake shore are ideal locations to capture the reflection of the setting sun on the water. In the early morning, moments when a layer of mist glides over the lake surface offer dramatic and atmospheric shots.

When taking a boat to the islands, the view of the shore from the open waters of the lake also creates interesting compositions. The small village houses on Mada Island and the lake view together offer unique frames. For bird watching and nature photography, it is beneficial to position yourself near the reed beds on the shore in the morning.

Depart from Konya early in the morning and reach Beyşehir. Your first stop could be the Eşrefoğlu Mosque; this structure, one of the best-preserved wooden-pillared mosques from the Anatolian Seljuk period, is located in the city center. Then, head down to the lake pier and arrange a boat tour to Mada Island. Take a short walk on the island and soak in the lake view.

After having lunch at a fish restaurant by the lake, visit the Eflatunpınar Hittite Water Monument near Beyşehir; this monument, dating back to the 13th century BC, reveals the historical depth of the region. You can spend the last hours of the day walking along the lake shore and watching the sunset.

Since Lake Beyşehir is located at a high altitude, the weather can change suddenly. Even in summer, it can get cool in the evenings, so it's advisable to bring a light jacket. While picnic areas are available along the lake shore, it can be difficult to find a spot during busy periods; arriving early is an advantage.

For boat tours, there are multiple boat operators in the pier area; it is possible to compare prices and negotiate in advance. Swimming may be prohibited in some parts of the lake, so pay attention to the signs on the shore. Taking care of the environment and taking your waste with you contributes to the preservation of this natural area.
