Sarısu Beach (Bağırganlı, Kandıra)

Sarısu Beach is a natural sandy strip stretching for approximately 1 kilometer where the Sarısu stream flows into the Black Sea. The coastal structure is generally sandy, but some sections also have a mixture of fine pebbles. As a characteristic of the Black Sea, the seabed deepens relatively quickly; this requires caution for adults who cannot swim and for children.

The wavy nature of the Black Sea is also evident here. Especially on windy days, wave height and surface currents can increase. There is no official data regarding Blue Flag status; we recommend confirming this with Kandıra Municipality before your visit. Lifeguard services and infrastructure facilities such as permanent showers and changing cabins are stated to be available during the season, but please confirm the continuity and hours of these services with an official source before going.

Entry to Sarısu Beach is free. Since the beach is located close to the village settlement, small businesses within the village can be used for basic needs. During the season, street vendors and small buffets operate near the shore; however, a large facility infrastructure should not be expected.

There is no clear data on sun lounger and umbrella rental options; bringing your own sunbathing equipment is the safest option. Parking is available at the village entrance but may fill up on busy weekends. For campers, flat areas suitable for tent pitching are located along the beach. Please confirm with an official source before visiting.

Sarısu Beach's wide and relatively secluded sandy beach creates an attractive environment for families. There is ample space for children to play on the sand and spend time in the shallow coastal areas. However, the rapidly deepening seabed structure of the Black Sea and the risk of sudden waves necessitate adult supervision for small children entering the sea.

Lifeguard service is stated to be provided during the season; however, it would be prudent to find out in advance what hours this service is active. The lack of ready facilities such as sun loungers and children's play areas on the beach requires families to bring their own equipment. Shady spots that can be used as picnic areas are available around the beach.

The most suitable period for swimming is from late June to early September. In July and August, the beach is packed on weekends; for a calmer experience, mid-June or September can be preferred. The Black Sea climate is variable, so a day that starts sunny in the morning might become cloudy in the afternoon; it's a good idea to carry a raincoat or a light top.

The calmest hours during the day are early mornings. In the afternoon, both temperature and visitor density increase. If you are considering camping, choosing weekday nights will provide a much more peaceful experience.

A private vehicle is the most practical option to reach the beach. From Istanbul, take the D-100 highway towards Kandıra, then proceed towards Kefken to reach Bağırganlı village. The journey takes approximately 2 hours from Istanbul and 45-60 minutes from Izmit city center. Village roads can be narrow and winding; proceed carefully with large vehicles.

Public transport connections are quite limited. Minibus services run from Kandıra district center to the village, but you need to call Kandıra Municipality for schedules and frequency. Parking is available at the beach entrance; arriving early is advantageous as it can get full on busy weekends.

The unique current and wave structure of the Black Sea also applies to this beach. Even if the sea appears calm, there is a risk of sudden waves and undertows; non-swimmers should not go deep. Avoid swimming during hours when lifeguard supervision is not active.

There is no large market or pharmacy around the beach; bring sunscreen, drinking water, and basic necessities with you. If you are camping, do not leave your trash; the preservation of the natural area largely depends on visitors' attitudes. Water quality at the mouth of the Sarısu stream where it flows into the sea can vary during rainy periods; choose your swimming spot accordingly.
