Eskihisar Fountain

Eskihisar Fountain was built in 1772 and takes its name from the village where it is located. The structure, approximately two meters high, carries the typical features of Ottoman-era village fountains with its square plan and pyramid-shaped roof. Thanks to the extensive renovation it underwent in 1844, it has survived relatively intact to the present day. It is registered as a protected historical monument on the Culture Portal.

Spring and autumn months offer more favorable weather conditions; the surrounding greenery also makes the fountain's photograph much more attractive during these seasons. The most distinctive architectural element of the fountain is its pyramid-shaped roof. Shots taken from a diagonal angle allow you to capture both the roof form and the side facade details in the same frame. In the morning hours, sunlight falls softer on the structure, and the stone texture becomes clearer. Wide-angle shots taken with the surrounding village texture can also be a good choice to reflect the historical atmosphere.

Combining a visit to Eskihisar Fountain with other historical sites in the region creates a much more efficient travel plan. Eskihisar Castle is close to the fountain and is a separate point of interest with its dominant position overlooking the Gulf of Izmit. Roman-era cemetery ruins are also found in the village.
