Yıldız Park

Yıldız Park is the most valuable green heritage left to Istanbul by the Ottoman palace tradition. This area, designated as the outer garden of Yıldız Palace during the sultanate, was reserved exclusively for the palace for centuries; it remained a carefully protected piece of nature that the public could not set foot on. Today, on the contrary, it serves as a rare breathing point in the heart of Beşiktaş, one of Istanbul's most crowded districts, where one can take refuge from city noise.

The park is affiliated with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and is a very large grove covering approximately 368,751 square meters. It contains historic pavilions, ponds, waterfalls, wooden bridges, and viewing terraces overlooking the Bosphorus. It offers visitors a multi-layered experience with both its historical texture and natural beauties.

The ideal time to visit Yıldız Park is during the spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) months. In spring, the blossoming trees and fresh greenery present the park like a painting, while in autumn, the yellow and red leaves enchant photography enthusiasts.

During summer months, especially on weekends, the park can be quite crowded; picnic areas and cafeterias attract a lot of attention. For a calmer experience, you can prefer early morning hours or weekday afternoons. In winter, the number of visitors significantly decreases; winter mornings also offer a unique beauty for those who want a secluded and peaceful walk.

The park has two separate entrances: one on Çırağan Street (Beşiktaş side), and the other on Palanga Street (Ortaköy side). Which gate you use depends on where you are coming from.

By public transport: You can reach the Çırağan Street gate in 10-15 minutes by walking from Beşiktaş Pier or Beşiktaş square. The Beşiktaş stop of the Kabataş-Mahmutbey metro line is also near the park. Bus lines such as 25E, 28, 30D passing along Çırağan Street will also drop you directly. If you are coming from Ortaköy, you can use the Palanga Street gate.

By car: Vehicle entry to the park is possible; however, a separate fee is charged for parking. On weekends, the parking lot can be very full, so it would be more practical to prefer public transport.

Yıldız Park is one of Istanbul's most productive photography locations. The Bosphorus view terraces offer unique shots, especially at sunset; angles showing Çırağan Palace and the Bosphorus together are quite impressive.

The artificial canal and wooden bridges begin immediately after entering from the Çırağan Street gate; this route, where you walk accompanied by waterfalls and the sound of water, is the park's most romantic line. Reflections around the large ponds yield breathtaking photos, especially in the morning. Malta Pavilion and Çadır Pavilion reflect the simple elegance of Ottoman architecture; the surroundings of the pavilions also form a strong background for photos. Portraits taken while walking among the colorful leaves in autumn also become signature shots of this park.

Yıldız Park has 2 restaurants and 2 cafeterias operated by BELTUR. These venues, also known as country cafes, are ideal for having tea and coffee, especially on terraces overlooking the Bosphorus. Due to high demand on weekends, waiting times may be longer; you can find more comfortable seating opportunities in the early morning hours.

For those who want to picnic, there are large grassy areas and cold picnic spots within the park. You can set up a pleasant picnic in the park with snacks you bought from Beşiktaş or Ortaköy. In the vicinity, Ortaköy's famous kumpir (baked potato) and waffle stands also offer an alternative option.

The park is open every day of the week, and pedestrian entry is free. If you enter by car, you will need to pay a parking fee; as this fee can change from time to time, it is recommended to confirm the current information at the gate.

Malta Pavilion and Çadır Pavilion inside the park may be subject to a separate entrance fee; if you plan to include these pavilions in your visit, it is advisable to get information in advance. Yıldız Palace Museum, located right next to the park, is managed by the Directorate of National Palaces and requires a separate ticket.

Since some parts of the park have uneven terrain, we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Stroller and wheelchair use may not be easy throughout the entire park. On busy weekends, finding a spot in picnic areas can be difficult, so arriving early in the morning will be an advantage.

We recommend starting your visit by entering the park from the Çırağan Street gate. Walk along the artificial canal you will encounter immediately after the entrance; after passing the waterfalls and wooden bridges, you will reach the large pond. Take a short break around the pond and take photos, then proceed towards Malta Pavilion.

After visiting Malta Pavilion, go up to the higher points of the park and relax at one of the Bosphorus view terraces. From here, you can go to Çadır Pavilion, and then take a tea break at one of the BELTUR cafeterias. On your way back, exiting from the Palanga Street gate and walking to Ortaköy is also a good option; this way, you will have explored both the park and Ortaköy square on the same day.
