Acem Reis Mosque

Acem Reis Mosque is a modest structure that remains in the shadow of larger mosques on Bursa's tourist map but offers clues about the city's Ottoman-era neighborhood life. Built during the reign of Fatih Sultan Mehmed by a Persian merchant named Bedreddin Mahmud, this mosque takes its name from its patron's nickname. Its popular name, Arap Dede Mosque, is a reflection of the oral tradition that developed around the structure over time.

The square-planned structure, with its single dome and brick-and-stone walls, exhibits the typical features of early Ottoman neighborhood masjids. The portico at the entrance is designed in accordance with the architectural understanding of the period. It may appear as an ordinary structure next to grand complexes; however, it holds a special place in embodying the tradition of neighborhood masjids in Ottoman urbanism.

There is no specific seasonal requirement for visiting Acem Reis Mosque when planning a trip alongside other historical structures in Bursa. It can be visited throughout the year; weather conditions are more favorable in spring and autumn. The interior of the mosque is quieter after morning prayer or at noon, allowing for a more relaxed visit during these hours.

Bursa can be quite hot in the summer months; it is more sensible to prefer visiting in the early morning or late afternoon. Since the area around the mosque can become crowded during Friday prayer times, those wishing to take photos or examine the structure from the outside should consider these hours.

Acem Reis Mosque is located in Kız Yakup Neighborhood of Osmangazi district in Bursa, at the beginning of Güzel Kız Street and at a three-way intersection. It is situated east of Demirtaş Mosque; you can use Demirtaş Mosque as a reference point to orient yourself.

After reaching the Osmangazi area from Bursa city center by municipal buses or minibuses, you can walk or take a short taxi ride to the mosque. If you come by car, it is possible to find parking on the surrounding streets; caution is needed due to the narrow neighborhood streets.
