Eybek Tower

Eybek Tower is an observation structure built in 1980 to detect forest fires early. Located within the borders of Kalabak village in Havran district of Balıkesir, at an altitude of 920 meters, the tower operates under the Çınarlıhan Forest Management Directorate. This spot, which preserves the functional structure of forest observation towers, has entered the route of nature travelers with its surrounding pine forests and the view extending to the Havran plain.

The most suitable periods for Eybek Tower are spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October). During these seasons, the forests appear most vibrant, and air temperatures are suitable for hiking. In summer, the region can be hot and dry; in winter, road conditions become difficult due to the high altitude. The clearest views are in the morning hours and the period before noon when the fog has lifted.

There is approximately 60 kilometers from Balıkesir city center to Havran district. From Havran district center, the journey continues on forest roads to Kalabak village. The ground on this route can sometimes be stabilized or dirt road; choosing a high-traction or 4x4 vehicle will make the journey much easier. Public transport connection is very limited, so using a private car or rental car is recommended.

If you are planning to visit Havran district, you can position Eybek Tower as a stop on your route. A short walk can be taken along the path from Kalabak village to the tower. Adding the Eybek water source in the region to your list also adds a different dimension to the trip. Taking a lunch break in Havran district center on the way back is a very practical option.

Eybek Tower and its surroundings are very suitable for taking wide-perspective photos, especially from angles overlooking the Havran plain and surrounding hills. The forest clearing right next to the tower offers strong compositions with pine silhouettes in the morning light. The green forest cover in spring and the yellow-orange tones in autumn create a valuable background for photography.

At 920 meters altitude, the weather can change suddenly; it is recommended to bring an extra layer of clothing even on a sunny day. There are no markets or cafes in the immediate vicinity; it is necessary to prepare enough water and snacks in advance. Since the condition of forest roads may vary depending on the season and weather conditions, it would be wise to get road information from local sources before going. Lighting a fire is strictly prohibited during the summer when the risk of fire is high.

There are no food and beverage establishments right next to Eybek Tower. There are local restaurants and breakfast places in Havran district center. Havran is a district known for its olive oil dishes and local olives; having lunch in the district center on the way back could be a good option.
