Mavi Göl (Bayındır Dam)

The most enjoyable period to visit Mavi Göl is spring, extending from April to June. During these months, the surrounding trees are green, the weather is neither too hot nor too cold; sitting by the lake becomes truly pleasant. September and October offer similar comfort: the summer crowds have dispersed, but the weather is still suitable for a picnic.

In July-August, the area gets quite crowded, and it can be difficult to find a gazebo, especially on weekends. Coming early in this period or preferring weekdays provides a much more comfortable experience. In winter, the area becomes deserted; while it offers a calm atmosphere for those who want to walk, barbecue and water activities may not be possible then.

Reaching Mavi Göl, which is approximately 12 kilometers from Ankara Kızılay, is quite easy. For those going by private car, it is sufficient to follow the Kayaş exit on the Samsun Road (E80); typing 'Bayındır Barajı' or 'Mavi Göl Ankara' into navigation applications directs directly to the entrance. The lake has two separate entry points connected via the Samsun Road.

Those who want to reach by public transport can use EGO bus lines going towards Kayaş. Checking EGO's official mobile application or website for current schedules and routes is the most reliable way. Vehicle parking is available within the area; there is an additional fee for vehicle entry.

Mavi Göl's biggest attraction is its suitability for barbecue culture. There is an opportunity to barbecue in gazebos with lake views; therefore, many visitors bring their own supplies. Preparing a picnic basket and coming is both an economical and enjoyable option.

Small sales points that meet basic needs may be found within the area; however, it is more practical to procure drinks and snacks in advance, especially to avoid problems in the crowds on weekends. Various restaurants and cafes are also available in the nearby Kayaş district.

Mavi Göl, as its name suggests, is a place that offers impressive photos with lake reflections. Early morning hours, combined with fog and a calm water surface, create a truly magical atmosphere over the dam. Sunset also creates orange-pink tones over the lake, and photos taken at these hours turn out quite striking.

Perspectives opening to the lake from between the gazebos and trees are ideal for reflection photos. Shots taken from the middle of the lake looking towards the shore while on a boat or pedal boat also offer a different composition. The area, which is also a valuable spot for birdwatchers, is suitable for wildlife photography.

On weekends, especially in summer, the area receives a high number of visitors. To avoid difficulty finding a gazebo and barbecue spot, going early in the morning provides a significant advantage. Keep in mind that there is an entrance fee for vehicles, and this fee may vary.

Since the area is a natural recreation spot, the ground can be uneven in some parts; choosing appropriate footwear is beneficial. A special parking area is available for caravans, but it's good to inquire in advance during busy periods as capacity is limited. Not harming nature around the lake and disposing of trash in designated areas is important for the preservation of this beautiful area.

Mavi Göl is not just a place to observe; it offers many things to do. Boat tours and pedal boat rentals provide an enjoyable experience on the lake. Walking around the lake along the wide walking paths is also very popular; it is also known to be a valuable area for birdwatchers.

Barbecue areas and gazebos are the most preferred sections by families and large groups. A special parking area reserved for caravans makes the area suitable for short stays as well. Basic infrastructure facilities such as restrooms and parking are available. All this variety makes Mavi Göl one of the rare natural areas in Ankara where one can spend hours.
