Arsinoe Ancient City

The most suitable period to visit Arsinoe is during April-May and September-October. During these periods, the harshness of the Mediterranean climate gives way to milder weather; walking on the hill becomes much more enjoyable. In July and August, temperatures can rise to 35-40 degrees Celsius, making it difficult to manage this heat in open terrain. Winter months can be rainy; caution is advised as the ground may become slippery.

Arsinoe is located on the Mersin-Antalya Road, at a point connected to the Aydıncık district. Coming by private car is the most practical way; you can reach Aydıncık in about 2 hours from Mersin city center by following the D400 highway. The road from Aydıncık to the ancient city can be found by entering "Arsinoe" or the address "Mersin-Antalya Yolu No:91, Aydıncık" into navigation applications. After reaching Aydıncık by public transport, it is recommended to research local transportation options.

Arsinoe is not a large-scale archaeological park; a 1-2 hour visit is usually sufficient to get to know the area. Those who enjoy taking photos or want to enjoy the view can stay a little longer. If you also add the Aydıncık district and other natural or historical sites in its vicinity to your program, it would be logical to plan a half-day for the region.

If you are starting from Mersin city center, you will reach Aydıncık by proceeding on the D400 towards Silifke and then Anamur. Important points such as Kızkalesi and Heaven-Hell Sinkholes are also located in the region. You can consider Arsinoe as part of this route and create an itinerary starting from Silifke and extending to Anamur. This way, you will comprehensively see Mersin's western coastline with a single travel plan.

The high position of Maraş Hill serves as a natural viewing terrace for wide panoramas overlooking the Mediterranean. Hours before noon are when the sun hits the sea surface at a perpendicular angle and the light is softest; photos taken during these hours usually yield more vibrant results. Framing the Mediterranean stretching behind the ancient ruins, by bringing them to the foreground, allows you to obtain compositions unique to the region.

Since Arsinoe is an ancient site far from the city center and with limited infrastructure, some preparations should be made in advance. It is recommended to bring sufficient water and snacks; there may not be an easily accessible market or cafe nearby. Since the ground can be uneven and rocky, choose comfortable walking shoes. It is advisable to get up-to-date information from local sources about visiting hours and access conditions before you go.

There are no food and drink facilities at the ancient site itself. In Aydıncık district center, there are local restaurants and small cafes. The fresh seafood, olive oil dishes, and citrus-heavy flavors of Mediterranean cuisine also stand out in this region. Especially eating fresh fish at Aydıncık's small fishing restaurants can be a pleasant part of your visit to the region.
