Kumcağız Beach

The most suitable period for Kumcağız is between late June and early September. Since the Black Sea water warms up later compared to the Aegean or Mediterranean, swimming before mid-June might be too cool. In July and August, the beach becomes lively; especially on weekends, it is crowded with visitors from Istanbul and Kocaeli. If you want a quiet holiday, prefer to go on weekdays. In early September, the crowds decrease, the sea is still suitable for swimming, and the forests retain their greenery.

The easiest way to reach Kumcağız is by private car. If you follow the Kandıra-Kefken highway, you will reach the village approximately 5 kilometers after Kerpe. It takes about 1 hour from Kocaeli city center. Those coming from Istanbul should head towards Kandıra via E-5 or TEM.

If you are not driving, after arriving at Kandıra district center by bus or dolmuş, you can use the minibus services going to the village. It is best to inquire about the schedules at the stop in the district center.

As Kumcağız is a small village, dining options are limited. While there are a few small cafes and buffets in the village, do not expect an extensive menu. The neighboring district of Kandıra is known for its local products; especially Kandıra yogurt and Kandıra cloth have become symbols of the region. For a more comprehensive fish or local food experience, heading to restaurants in Kerpe or Kefken would be a better option.

Instead of visiting Kumcağız alone, considering the Kandıra coastal route as a whole will allow you to have a much more productive day. Start your morning in Kerpe, then move on to Kumcağız, and in the afternoon, see Kefken and its pink rocks. You can easily visit all these points by car. Kefken Lighthouse is also a beautiful stop for taking photos.

The most striking views of Kumcağız are obtained from points where the forest extends right down to the coast; the sandy beach starting right behind the pine trees creates a unique atmosphere for the region. The rocky areas at both ends of the beach are interesting spots for both swimming and photography. During sunset hours, the light takes on a beautiful color in the coastal sections facing west.

Since Kumcağız is located on the Black Sea coast, the sea can sometimes be wavy; for families with children, it is important to prefer shallow and calm areas. Although the Blue Flag status indicates that the beach meets certain standards, off-season facility services (showers, changing rooms, etc.) may be limited or closed. We recommend carrying cash as there may not be ATMs or banks in the village. Parking areas fill up quickly on weekends, so try to go early.

Entry to Kumcağız public beach is free. Your basic expenses will consist of fuel or transportation, food and drinks, and if applicable, sunbed and umbrella rental. The buffets and cafes in the village are affordable compared to big cities, but options are limited. If you bring your own food and drinks, you can have a very economical day.
