Derince Harikalar Sahili (Wonderland Coast)

Derince Harikalar Sahili is an open-air entertainment and recreation area located on the coast of Izmit Bay, designed with a fairy tale theme. On the approximately 30,000 square meter coast, thematic structures such as Noah's Ark, a Windmill, and a Pirate Ship appeal to children's imaginations, while large picnic tables and green areas offer a breathing space for adults. Its seafront location provides a direct view of the bay.

The area is operated by Derince Municipality; it is frequently included in the weekend itineraries of families, especially those coming from Istanbul and Izmit. Thematic decorations also create an attractive backdrop for photography.

The most suitable period to visit Harikalar Sahili is during the warm months, from May to September. During this period, both the weather and the view of the bay are at their best; pool activities and outdoor events also operate at full capacity.

On weekends, especially during the summer holiday period, the area can be quite crowded. For a calmer visit, choosing weekday mornings is a sensible option. In early autumn, while the weather is still mild, it continues to be a good option for a picnic.

By public transport: There are regular public bus services from Izmit city center to Derince. It is possible to reach the coast by bus in approximately 20-30 minutes.

By car: The coast can be easily reached by using the Derince exit via the TEM or D-100 highway. It is about a 1-hour drive from Istanbul and 15-20 minutes from Izmit city center. Parking facilities are available in the area.

Harikalar Sahili has tables and areas where visitors can picnic; therefore, bringing your own food is both an economical and practical choice. It is also known that basic snacks and drinks are sold within the area.

For a more comprehensive dining experience, it may be necessary to go to restaurants in Derince town center or Izmit. There are also various fish restaurants along the bay.

Harikalar Sahili offers a very colorful backdrop for photography enthusiasts thanks to its thematic structures. The replicas of Noah's Ark and the Pirate Ship create an interesting background, especially for photos taken with children.

If you are coming from Istanbul, you can easily reach it via TEM, and on your return, you can take a break in Gebze or Körfez districts. For those traveling by car, it is recommended to combine this coast with natural areas in different districts of Kocaeli on the same day.
