Tortum Waterfall

The waterfall's flow peaks in April and May with the melting of snow. During this period, the water flows much more loudly, and getting wet from splashing drops when approaching is inevitable. Visitor numbers are also high in the summer months (June-August). The coolness of the waterfall provides an added advantage during this period due to the warm weather. Access to the region may become difficult in winter months; it is advisable to check road conditions in advance after snowfall.

Approximately 100 kilometers from Erzurum city center towards Uzundere. By private car, you follow Tortum Lake all the way; the road is asphalt and well-maintained. If you are using public transport, you can take buses from Erzurum bus station to Uzundere, and then continue by taxi from the district to the waterfall. If you are coming from Artvin, it is also possible to reach the waterfall via the same main road. Travelers on the Erzurum-Artvin route can easily add it to their itinerary.

1-1.5 hours is sufficient to see the waterfall, take photos from the observation deck, and take a short walk. If you plan to have a picnic or spend time sitting in a tea garden, this period can extend to 2-3 hours. For those considering bungalow accommodation, there is also the option to stay overnight in the area and see the waterfall more calmly in the morning.

Tortum Waterfall is usually a stop for travelers on the Erzurum-Artvin or Erzurum-Uzundere route. Since it is on the road along Tortum Lake, it can be visited in a single day along with the lake view. If your route takes you to Uzundere, historical structures in the district center and surrounding villages can also be added to the itinerary.

The entrance fee is 30 TL for a full ticket, 20 TL for students, and parking is 50 TL. Relatives of martyrs and veterans can enter for free. Some visitors state that the entrance and parking on the left side are free, and the waterfall can be reached the same way. There are comments that beverage prices in the surrounding kiosks and restaurants are higher than in the city center. Bringing your own water and snacks can help your budget.

The ground near the waterfall can be wet and slippery, so choose appropriate footwear. Some visitors mention that there is no place for ablution, but a mosque and restrooms are available. The fee application may vary depending on the entrance point. It is healthiest to check the current sign at the ticket booth.

The observation deck is the most practical spot to capture the entire width of the waterfall. Descending the stairs makes it possible to get a close-up angle near the bottom of the waterfall, especially in spring, when a rainbow can form with water mist and sunlight. Wide-angle shots can also be taken from the walking path on the opposite slope.
